Content warning: sensitive topic - suicidal thoughts and menstruation.
A groundbreaking study by the University of Illinois Chicago (https://lnkd.in/g6mbnakA) sheds light on the intricate relationship between the menstrual cycle and mental health.According to the findings, women with a history of suicide risk are more likely to experience suicidal ideation or planning in the days surrounding menstruation. The peer-reviewed study is the first longitudinal exploration of how suicidal thoughts and related symptoms fluctuate throughout a menstrual cycle. Some individuals may be hormonally sensitive to the fluctuating hormones of the menstrual cycle though there is nothing medically wrong with their cycles. This is why it’s so vital that we increase awareness, support and resources for those navigating mental health challenges associated with their menstrual cycles. You’re not aloneTo those navigating mental health challenges associated with their menstrual cycles, we want you to know that you're not alone. It's crucial to increase awareness, support, and resources for individuals facing these challenges.
