The Period Place
12 March 2019
Boutique Period Market
Over 350 people attended our market during the 3 hours we were open with tens of thousands further reached through our social channels.
Our stall holders collective sales totalled over $6,000
The vast majority of people engaged with more than one stall, had meaningful conversations and purchased items from at least one stall.
THE EXPERIENCE.
Over $6,000 of items were sold by 12 market stalls in a 3 hour timeframe, including sustainable and disposable period products, books, clothing, natural healing oils, zines, art, and more.
Stall holders reported they were engaging in deep conversations and informative education with market goers, exactly the interactions that help create thought patterns leading to behaviour change
The event proved our concept and belief that Aotearoa isn't shy about periods and they want to see more period talk in the public sphere
THE IMPACT.
Our goals were to host a physical marketplace where the public could experience period products and period periphery products in a fun, engaging and informative manner and to foster a joint sense of community within the period organisations and businesses we work with.
There was engaging and widespread social media messaging before the event and clear signage once people arrived at the event.
Having a casual approach and clear signage including the word ‘period’ allowed us to foster the intention that periods are not to be feared, and can exist alongside ‘normal’ and ‘everyday’ activities like a weekend trip to the local farmers market.
